    First wingless insects appeared. Later evolved wings in the Carboniferous, becoming the most successful animal group in Earth's history.

  • Late Devonian Extinction

    375 Ma

    A prolonged extinction eliminating ~75% of marine species. Reef ecosystems and trilobites were hit hardest. The cause remains debated.

  • First Tetrapods
