Dover Strait: flood traces on the seabed
Three evidence stages · present-day map
Simplified illustration of water overtopping a chalk barrier and a plunge pool, based on a research interpretation; not a survey or exact reconstruction of ancient terrain.
A 2017 study interpreted the seabed as evidence of at least two erosional stages. Explore those clues at their present-day location. The first breach is proposed at around 450,000 years ago; later incision of the Lobourg Channel may have occurred around 160,000 years ago. Neither is a direct date for an individual flood.
